We are always talking multi-purpose furniture around here. Its our way of designing with longevity in mind. If I am (on behalf of my client) to invest in a piece of furniture, I question what I’m going to do with it later. Later when I’m re-decorating, later when the trends change, later when I’m bored with it, or just later when the kids have outgrown it.
So having spotted these scandi inspired timber beds some time ago, I’ve been wanting to spec their versatile nature to any client who’ll listen. And if not, one will be coming home with me.
Danish design company, Oliver Furniture, have created their Wood Collection of cots and beds to cater for over-thinkers like myself. Their timber cot (with two heights for infants and tots) converts to a junior bed, lasting bubs until they hit preschool (or another little sibling arrives). And then its time to upgrade to the big bed. This is where the real creativity comes into play. You can purchase additional components to customise the piece to your child’s space. Need more floor space? Raise it up and create a cubby underneath. Tween needs a hangout? Push it higher to a loft bed and make a new study space or lounge area. Young adult leaving home? Send them on their way with a day bed as their first lounge. So many options, and with such a clean design it will transcend fashion trends to come.
The new range of Oliver Furniture is coming to Australian shores soon through online retailer Design Stuff. Pre-orders are available now x
